A Message from the Board of Directors

From LVGC

To: All Members

Subject: A New Year & New Beginning

January 2010

Dear LVGC Member,

Happy New Year to all of our Lincoln Valley Members of 2009 and we are looking forward to an exciting new year in 2010.  I’m excited to tell you about some changes that have taken place at Lincoln Valley Golf Course.  In the past there have been doubts and concerns as to whether or not our course could survive; rest assured it will.  We have had some major capital infusions that have helped to retire the debt load that has been lurking over our heads for many years. However, we still need your support to get to the point we need to be at as a business.  We, as a board, want to build a financial cushion that every business needs to survive.  Please keep the pledges and donations coming as they are going to be earmarked for maintenance projects such as finishing the siding, heating and cooling upgrades, or any other major surprises that may occur.

Another major happening is the hiring of a new business/clubhouse manager, Kristina Tickle.   Kristina is playing a key role in tracking the finances so that we can enjoy a profitable course.  Stop out and see her during our new winter hours from 2pm-6pm, Tuesday through Saturday.

Also, we have adjusted the dues as you will see in the 2010 dues form.  We are asking every member to try and bring a new member along.  If this strategy doesn’t work we will have to use a different approach to maintain cash flow and we know what that means, HIGHER DUES!!!  We are asking for and need community support to keep this course on the right track.

Mark your calendars for a “Pay your Dues” party on January 16, 2010 starting at 7:00pm.  Kristina will be having a beer sale sponsored by Coors Lite.  Come out and have some fun, meet new people and see old friends and get the early pay rate on the 2010 golf season.

Sincerely,

Justin Edler, President LVGC

A Word from Your Superintendent, Dustin Eggers

It has been challenging to get the golf season going this year. A long, harsh winter followed by the cool wet spring has made it a slow process. Hopefully the weather will start cooperating soon.

The course has its ups and downs after the winter. The greens held up reasonably well and should get better with warmer temperatures. Some tee boxes did not make it however. The dead grass on many them is perennial rye-grass. Perennial ryegrass does not survive well under prolonged conditions of extreme cold, wind, snow, and ice cover. Decisions will have to be made on how to bring them back into playing condition as quickly as possible. Fairways and roughs have good and bad areas as well. We need to improve drainage in some areas, seed other areas, and minimize cart traffic as much as possible for optimum results. It is simply going to require some time and patience for the course to recover from this past winter.

As a reminder, please keep golf carts on paths around greens and tees and follow the 90 degree rule in the fairway as much as possible. The course has a lot of wet areas and this will help to minimize traffic damage. Also, there has been a lot of volunteer work at the course this spring. Thank you to everyone for your efforts. It is greatly appreciated.

New Policies for 2010

  • The clubhouse has gone to a non-smoking facility as of April 1.

  • In an effort to cut costs and labor, we have implemented a new pin location system. All flags will be yellow with a smaller flag below it. Small flag low = front pin. Small flag middle = middle pin. Small flag high = back pin.

  • The 9-mile rule has been reinstated during the 2008 season. This means if you live within 9 mile of Lincoln Valley, you must be a member in order to play golf or take part in any social activity.

  • In an effort to help myself and the staff get to know our members, we are asking that every golfer check in before going out for your round and present your member card. If you have not received your cards yet, please ask for it your next time out.
